Yesterday, Mrs. Dunn's students went "speed dating" to find their new book interests!! The students participated in a book speed dating. We were transformed to a high end Café De Dunn where the students searched for their "book mate". The students had three rounds where they met new book interests. They then chose their true love book that they wanted to spend time with and get to know better. This activity allowed students to investigate different books that they might not have chosen on their own. Thank you for making learning and reading FUN Mrs. Dunn!!!

Ward Passes Torch to Byrdsong With the conclusion of the 2023 Tenaha Tiger football season, 2024 will usher more changes than just a new year. Tenaha ISD was made aware of Coach Ward’s wishes to move into Administration this past summer and began making plans for this transition. Coach Byrdsong will continue to lead the High School as Principal without interruption for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year. Coach Ward will move into Administrative responsibilities as assigned now that football season has concluded. Mr. Ward and Mr. Byrdsong will meet with all athletes at 12:30 today to discuss the transition. Mr. Byrdsong is very excited about the opportunity to extend his relationship with the students into this new role. “I have learned a lot from Coach Ward this past season. I look forward to continuing the Tiger Tradition that Coach Ward has done such an outstanding job of cultivating here in Tenaha over the years.” Coach Byrdsong has most recently seen success as the co-defensive coordinator at John Tyler High School for 2 years with 4th round playoff finishes, as well as the Defensive Coordinator at Liberty Eylau where they also saw 3rd and 4th round playoff finishes as well. “I hope to continue to build on the foundation of a program that expects young men to demonstrate discipline, character and a program that the community can be proud of grades 7-12.” Coach Terry Ward, puts down his headset and clipboard after a very successful 27 year coaching career; one that has multiple playoff appearances, countless wins, and the ultimate achievement…a State Championship. “After 27 years of coaching and being on the sidelines, I have made the decision to move into a different direction both professionally and personally. I will always cherish my time coaching: the memories made with the athletes and their families who have entrusted me with the role of raising wonderful young men, along with sharing this responsibility with my amazing coaching staffs from all across the state and getting to know their families as well. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for trusting me. I have been blessed with opportunities that a lot of people have not; including winning the State Championship in 2011. I am now looking forward to devoting my time to my family: my wife, Elizabeth, who has stood beside me throughout my entire coaching career. We plan to spend our time cheering on our sons, who are now making their mark in the coaching world themselves. Thank you to everyone who has stood behind our team, our family and me throughout my time as the head coach and athletic director here in Tenaha; your support will never be forgotten.” Tenaha ISD would like to sincerely thank Coach Ward and his family for their dedication to Tenaha ISD and their athletes in this role and “season of life”; you have all truly left a positive impact on our school and community and we are thankful that you will continue to do so in other roles as well.

Thankful Thursday! The TES teams are midway through their 3rd Six Week's Challenge which included doing something kind for another part of our campus. The Kool Kids treated the HS staff with some donuts a few weeks ago, and The Tameless Tigers thought the MS staff could use a snack to get them through until Thanksgiving Break. We are thankful for all of our TISD staff!

What a DAY it has been in TIGERLAND!! We started the day off by honoring our Veterans with a donut and kolache breakfast courtesy of the wonderful folks at Bink's Quick Stop in Tenaha and our awesome Tenaha Food Service Staff and Ms. Phyllis Thompson, as well as a video tribute, artwork and thank you letters from our students in many different grade levels. Our BETA and JCC volunteers greeted our guests, and Mrs. Albert's 3rd grade class even had the opportunity to meet and shake our Veterans' hands to personally thank them for their service. It was a wonderful morning. From there, we celebrated a tremendous accomplishment by one of our own Tigers, as she committed to the next chapter by officially signing with SMU to play basketball! We are so excited for Kayanna Cox and her family, and were honored to share in her special moment today. We know you will not only be amazing on the court, but you will continue to do amazing things beyond your athletic career as well! CONGRATULATIONS! Finally, we wrapped up the day sending off our TIGERS to put the "BOBCATS" to sleep, with our pep-rally featuring none other than the duo from KYKX, Harlan the Sports Guy and Pigskin Bob! We awarded scholarships, danced, yelled, and had a ton of fun! As the day concluded, we finished the celebration by joining the State Silver Medal XC Team as they placed their trophy in the trophy case. This was a sentimental moment for all, as Coach Sisk thanked her team for a memorable season and delivering personal bests for each runner to conclude the year. This also concludes Coach Sisk's career as our XC Coach as well, and what a tremendous way to finish. Job well done!! Bundle up tonight, drive safely, and we will see you all in Jasper; kick-off is 7pm!!
