Meet the Band Directors
Mr. Chris Conway
In his 15th year of teaching, Mr. Chris Conway is the head director for the Roarin’ Band from Tigerland. Before arriving in Tenaha he served as the head director for Elysian Fields Independent School District. Before that, he taught for the Carthage Independent School District for ten years. Under his direction, his bands have earned numerous individual and group awards including the UIL Sweepstakes Award.
Mr. Conway is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana. He is a graduate of Northwestern State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree as well as a Master of Music. While there he was a member of the Student Government Association, Spirit of Northwestern marching band, both Fall and Spring Wind Ensembles, The Natchitoches Symphony Orchestra and Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity.
In 2008, he was named a Distinguished Teacher by the Carthage Education Foundation. In 2011, he was awarded The Annice Knight Award by Tenaha ISD. Also in 2011, he was awarded first place at the state level of the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series for Tenaha’s performance of Peacemaker march. He has performed professionally with the Bill Causey Orchestra, The Sounds of Swing, and the Centenary Summer Band.
Mr. Conway’s professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, Association of Texas Small School Bands, and American Federation of Musicians.
He is married to his wife Tamesa and has a step son Matt.
Ms. Brandi Guilbeau
Ms. Brandi Guilbeau is in her first year of teaching at Tenaha ISD. She graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana with a Bachelor of Music Education. She was involved with many organizations throughout college, including Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity, NSU Crew Team, the “Spirit of Northwestern” Demon Marching Band, which she was an Assistant Drum Major, Wind Ensemble, as well as working with the Northwestern State Summer Music Camps.
Ms. Guilbeau’s professional organizations include Texas Music Educator’s Association and Association of Texas Small School Bands.
Mr. Craig Haynie
Entering his seventh year of teaching, Mr. Craig Haynie comes to Tenaha High School from Foster Middle School in Longview ISD. Mr. Haynie began his teaching career at Carthage High School as the high school assistant director in 2005. In 2008 he moved into the head middle school director at Foster. While at Foster Mr. Haynie’s bands consistently received numerous awards including Sweepstakes awards at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest.
In 2011 Mr. Haynie’s band also received Honor Band recognition at the region level. Mr. Haynie and his wife Crissy are both educators. They have two wonderful boys, Christian and Connor. Mr. Haynie is very excited to be able to work at Tenaha ISD with such a talented group of young people.
