Brian Sours is entering his 5th year as the Director of Band at Tenaha ISD. Since becoming Director of Bands for Tenaha ISD, Mr. Sours, along with the help of Tenaha's talented assistant band directors, has the led the Roarin' Band from Tigerland through a transition from military style to corps style marching. Since becoming the Tenaha Director of Bands, the high school band has been named State Winner in the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series (OPS) State Contest for classification 2A in 2015, as well as being named Runner-Up in 2016. The band has also received superior ratings and sweepstakes awards. Additionally, the middle school band has received a sweepstakes in back-to-back years for the first time in history.
Prior to Tenaha, Mr. Sours was the Director of Bands at San Saba ISD from 2009-2014. While in San Saba, he led the Golden Armadillo Band program to several historic first for the school district, including: leading both the middle school and high school bands to their first UIL Sweepstakes Awards in school history, leading the school band to a 5th place finish at the 2013 UIL State Marching Band Contest Finals, leading the band to multiple superior ratings and OPS State Final competitions, and advancing 20+ students annually to State Solo & Ensemble.
Mr. Sours Graduated from Wills Point High School in Wills Point, Texas in 2004. He has a degree in Music Education from the University of Arkansas. During his time at the U of A, he studied tuba under Dr. Benjamin Pierce. He was also a member of the Razorback Marching Band, Tuba/ Euphonium ensemble, choir, and concert bands.
Mr. Sours is a member of TMEA, TBA, ATSSB, and an alumnus of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity where he served as president for two years.
